Fabric
A garment is only as honest as its cloth. Before pattern work is frozen, Elkaiva develops fabric against end use: fiber, yarn, weave or knit structure, finishing, and how the cloth will behave under needle, steam, wash, and wear. Private-label brands that skip fabric decisions inherit seam failures, opacity problems, and reorder mismatch later.
From fiber to yarn
- Fiber choice sets hand, strength, moisture behavior, and dye affinity — cotton, linen, wool, silk, viscose, polyester, elastane, and blends each respond differently on the loom and under the needle.
- Yarn count and twist change softness, hairiness, pilling risk, and how cleanly a seam sits.
- Singles vs plied yarns, and ring-spun vs open-end constructions, alter surface character and seam bulk before weaving even begins.
- Elastomeric cores or plated yarns introduce recovery that must be planned into stitch type and seam allowance, not added as an afterthought.
Weaving: how structure becomes cloth
- Plain weave gives stability and clean cutting; twill adds drape and diagonal character; satin/sateen shifts sheen and friction; ripstop and dobby structures add function or texture.
- Warp and weft density (ends and picks) control opacity, weight, tear strength, and how the fabric accepts a needle without distortion.
- Selvage integrity, skew, and bow must be controlled so panels cut square and hang true.
- Loom-state fabric is not finished fabric: scouring, bleaching, dyeing, softener, calendaring, peach, brush, or coating change hand and dimensional stability before sampling.
- A weave approved on a hangswatch can fail in production if finishing, residual shrinkage, or lot dye depth is not locked to the same standard.
Knitting vs weaving for apparel
Knits (jersey, rib, interlock, terry) stretch and recover differently from woven cloth. Gauge, yarn path, and finishing decide transparency, edge curl, and whether a seam tunnels or waves. Elkaiva selects weave or knit from the garment's motion, opacity, and finishing needs — then confirms the structure with wash and steam tests before bulk allocation.
Finishing and performance tests
- Hand, sheen, stretch, and opacity evaluation on body-relevant tension — not only flat.
- Wash, rub (crocking), pilling, and dimensional change tests matched to the category.
- Color continuity planning so reorders match the approved lab dip and bulk lot.
- Interlining and fusible compatibility checks so fronts, collars, and facings bond cleanly.
Why fabric belongs inside full-cycle work
Material behavior changes seam choice, needle size, interlining, and fit. Elkaiva treats fabric development as part of product development: the same team that freezes construction also freezes cloth, so sampling and manufacturing share one standard.
How Elkaiva runs the program
The Luxury Full Cycle Private Label Manufacturer. Elkaiva is a US-based company. Manufacturing, materials work, and quality-control operations are carried out in Bursa and Istanbul, Türkiye. Engagements are managed as full-cycle private-label programs: development decisions, sampling, production readiness, manufacturing, quality control, branding, packaging, and delivery planning under one accountable process.
Minimum order quantity is typically 500 to 1,000 units per style. Exact MOQ depends on product complexity, material, and customization, and is confirmed before production begins.
Sampling requirements and revision rounds depend on the product path. Schedules are confirmed after project scope is defined.
